The Sumitomo Encounter AT is an all terrain, all season tire manufactured for SUVs and light trucks. Sumitomo offers a 60,000 mile treadwear warranty with this model.
The tire offers exceptional all terrain performance. The tread pattern design and the all terrain durable tire compound work together to increase the soft, loose and uneven terrain traction. The design features independent tread blocks, open shoulders, wide grooves and an optimized siping design that firmly grips the road surface in all conditions. The staggered tread blocks also eliminate mud and snow and eject rocks stuck between the tread elements to prevent stone retention and to avoid the footprint from being blocked from its contact with the road surface. The better traction and excellent road gripping ability ensures a secure performance.
The tread pattern with the added siping detail and the independent tread blocks ensures excellent all weather traction. The special tread elements find firm grip on the road surface in dry, wet and winter weather road conditions. The durable compound also ensures a safer performance as it maintains its flexibility even in colder temperatures. The special in-block sipes enhance the winter weather road grip, especially on snow and ice-covered road surfaces. The four zigzag circumferential grooves prevent hydroplaning by dispersing water and slush from below the tire’s footprint to guarantee a safer all weather driving experience.
The tire promotes a longer lasting tread life. The special durable compound and the optimized footprint upgrade the tread life and the tire’s usability. The durable compound resists tread wear, which slows the tread wear rate down significantly. The optimized footprint manages to evenly distribute the driving pressure. The tread elements equally spread out the forces of acceleration, cornering and braking which prevent irregular tread wear formations across the tread area. The reinforced internal structure maintains the tire’s optimal shape against the driving and load pressure affecting the tires. The optimized shape increases the model’s performance in all weather.
The Encounter AT increases the model’s handling. The tread design’s center tread blocks and the reinforced internal structure keep the tire’s road contact. Please keep in mind when purchasing tires, that if a tire has a P in front of the size, such as a P235/75R15 that it is a Passenger/Sport Utility rated tire and will carry a 4ply rating. If the tire has an LT in front of the size, such as an LT235/85R16 the tire is designed for use on Light Trucks, and will carry either a 6,8 or 10 Ply Rating. P.R. or Ply Ratings on tires are now used in comparison for what used to be termed as plies. If a tire carries an ST in front of the size, such as an ST235/80R16 these tires may only be used on a trailer, and not on a vehicle. We sell these tires "as is, with no written or expressed warranty". We are not a dealer for any manufacturer, so any warranties that you receive will need to come from the tire manufacturer. We offer a 14 day return policy on any un-mounted tire that we sell. Your only obligation is that you (the buyer) pay the return shipping.
With our volume it is impossible for us to take actual pictures of each tire being listed. Our pictures are to be used as a reference to the tread design and not the actual photo of the tire. Any rims pictured are Not included and only pictured to feature the tire.
We offer a Nationwide Road Hazard Warranty on most New Passenger and Light Truck tires that we sell. The cost is only $10 per tire and it will cover you across the 48 continental United States. Once setup is completed we will mail you the warranty card to keep with your vehicle. Since this plan is offered Nationwide, to file a Road Hazard Warranty claim call 1-800-351-8565. Tire rotation every 6,000 miles is required for any warranties.
